Dr. Kent Hughes spoke at Commencement 2014 and remained on campus the following week to teach The Art of Transforming Text into Sermon to doctoral students.

Dr. Hughes was in pastoral ministry for forty-one years. After beginning his ministry in the Friends Church, he spent the last twenty-seven years as Senior Pastor of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois.

He earned his BA from Whittier College (history), an MDiv from Talbot Theological Seminary, and the DMin from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Dr. Hughes is the author of numerous books, among them the best-selling Disciplines of a Godly Man. He is also editor of the projected fifty volume Preaching the Word series, to which he has made numerous contributions.

Kent and his wife, Barbara, have four children and twenty-three grandchildren. He retired from his pulpit ministry at College Church and was given the title Senior Pastor Emeritus in December 2006.

The divinity school is pleased to announce that Dr. Walter C. Kaiser, Old Testament scholar, former Academic Dean at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and former President of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, will teach Preaching Messiah through the Old Testament in the doctoral program this August 5-8th.

Dr. Douglas Moo, author of the recently released Galatians volume in the Baker Exegetical Commentary series will return to the divinity school to teach Preaching through the Epistle to the Galatians in the doctoral program this November 4th — 7th. This will be Dr. Moo’s fourth course at CGSD. His lectures on Romans from the May 2012 doctoral class can be viewed on the BiblicalTraining.org website.

Dr. Moo has written major commentaries on the following New Testament epistles:

Romans (NICNT and NIVAC)
Galatians (BECNT)
Colossians and Philemon (PNTC)
Hebrews (ZECNT forthcoming)
James (PNTC and TNTC)
2 Peter and Jude (NIVAC)

He has also co-authored An Introduction to the New Testament with D. A. Carson.
